There have been much talk in many different states about cannabis recently, but only 33 states, Guam, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S Virgin Islands have legalized it to some extent. California was the first state to legalize marijuana for its people to use; it passed Proposition 215 in 1996. The different states and their laws related to weed are given below.
Federal Laws
Many different states are approving marijuana for various purposes. However, it is considered illegal under federal law. It is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug, although battles are going on in the Full house.
Laws in Different States
The names of the states given below have legalized marijuana to some extent. While the bills in other states are either pending or not approved.
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming allow the use of medical cannabis. However, the laws are stringent. Residents of Oklahoma can go about i49 to get information on marijuana products since it is not allowed to sell within the state of Oklahoma.
Alaska
Alaska allows medical cannabis to use, but the patients need to be in the registry or have an ID card. Many dispensaries provide the products. People from other states are technically not allowed to purchase marijuana. It is only used for specific diseases.
Arizona
Arizona has laws that are similar to Alaska. However, patients from other states are allowed marijuana but only for illnesses that are approved in Arizona.
Arkansas
Patients living in Arkansas, or visiting from another state, can have easy access to marijuana if they have a medical card or their name is in the registry.
California and Colorado
People in California can use for medical purposes with a card or if their name is in the registry. However, it doesn’t recognize patients from other states.
Connecticut
It also allows medical cannabis, but only for specific illnesses.
Delaware
Delaware allows the use of medical cannabis for certain diseases. Patients from other states are also permitted to use for Delaware approved conditions.
Hawaii and Illinois
Allow the medical use, but only for their natives that have a medical card.
Maine
Maine allows medical marijuana to its native patients. People from other states are permitted to use, but not purchase.
Maryland and Massachusetts
These states only allow their locals to use it for medical purposes, with a medical card.
Michigan
The entire state of Michigan doesn’t, only some parts. People from other states are allowed to possess but not purchase
Minnesota
It only allows limited liquid quantities of marijuana to its people.
Montana
It only allows its population.
Nevada
It allows people from other states, as well as locals, to use marijuana. However, people from other states have to go through a complicated process.
New Hampshire
The locals are allowed to use it. People from other states need a note for use, but they can't buy.
New Jersey, New Mexico, and North Dakota
Only allow locals to use medical cannabis.
New York
It has strict usage laws for its people. Outsiders aren’t allowed.
Ohio and Utah
Ohio allows its population to use medical cannabis. The details for foreigners are still pending.
Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Vermont
They only allow their local patients.
Rhode Island
Local patients are allowed to use it. People from other states can buy and use the products.
Washington
Patients don’t have a medical card, but they can use it for specific illnesses.
West Virginia
Locals, and terminally ill from other states, are allowed. However, smoking is illegal.
