(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Doha-based sustainability-driven design and hospitality startup is advocating for ‘green entrepreneurship' among companies in Qatar.
Jeniffer Serrano Tungol, the founder and CEO of Ateliers Artea, said the company's goal is to make bio-based and sustainable materials mainstream, accessible, and relevant to the business and retail consumers 'of this generation and the next.
'Our drive for innovation and sustainability is inspired by our previous works in the field of interior design, as well as hospitality and lifestyle in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. We saw the need for improvement in the way hotels, airlines, and retail establishments operated, and how products, consumer goods, and textiles are made for the use in garments and interior design.
'Witnessing problems first hand at hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, the retail sector, airlines, factories, and production facilities worldwide, indeed, the hospitality, fashion and textile industry are amongst the main polluters on the planet; and being compelled by these realities, opened up the idea of creating a business that can transform these sectors towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and circular economy-driven businesses, Tungol told Gulf Times yesterday.
According to Tungol, green entrepreneurship and adopting sustainable business practices in Qatar would challenge 'every known traditional business models, bottom lines, and path to profitability.
She said, 'Sustainable progress happens only when two things come together: One is to have an absolutely innovative idea and approach, and the second necessary thing needed is the catalyst of investments.
'Becoming a green business is good business but it requires commitment, a different perspective, and the willpower to change… our role as a local business is to share our passion to educate and a mission to create social progress to all the stakeholders and the supply chain.
Tungol also lauded the support extended by major organisations in Qatar, such as the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC). She said the QGBC enables Ateliers Artea to reach a diverse and wider audience through collaborations and events like Eco Schools programme, Qatar Sustainability Week 2019, and other upcoming projects in the pipeline.
'We promote a sustainable lifestyle through our community events focused on creating climate change awareness, combating plastic pollution, conscious consumerism, and social entrepreneurship, she said.
Besides QGBC, Ateliers Artea collaborates and is supported by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), Katara Hospitality, the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) by the General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), various universities and colleges, and other local entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises.
'Together, we develop sustainable strategies for their business, alternative solutions, and provide green products and services to the public…we will continue working with other innovators, scientists, sustainability experts, and pioneers of revolutionary technologies to support Qatar's goals and national vision for 2030, Tungol stressed.
