HEC Paris in Qatar aims at impact and excellence: New Dean


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) HEC Paris in Qatar, the first European partner campus of Qatar Foundation (QF), whilst building on the success of ten years in Doha, is determine to start an exciting and ambitious era, according to Dr. Pablo Martin De Holan, new Dean. 

He outlined plans on the future of HEC Paris in Qatar and its executive programmes during a meeting with media persons, yesterday.

Dr Holan emphasised that the plan marked by two central goals: 'impact and excellence, the core objective of the campus is making significant contributions to achieve the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and development of a knowledge-based economy in Qatar. 

'Our Executive MBA is ranked among the best in the world, and so is HEC Paris in a wide variety of rankings. My goal is to help set new standards of excellence in the field of education in Qatar, by conducting a wide range of programs on topics that are of relevance to managers, helping maximise our impact, he said.

Dean Holan also said that they are looking at possibilities to include new specialities into programmes and designing the offerings to fit the needs of the country.   

HEC Paris in Qatar offers two programmes: the International Executive MBA programme which started in 2011 and currently produced about 350 graduates and the Specialized Master's Degree in Strategic Business Unit Management (SBUM) which started in 2013 and produced about 500 graduates. The school has also done about 100 customised programmes catering to the needs of different organisation since 2015. 

Dean Holan also highlighted the vision of the school in the field of research. 'One area in which we will be working harder is research. We definitely want to provide local research. We are staffing our campus with local professors who will produce research relevant to the country and the region, he said. 

HEC Paris in Qatar is also planning to reach out and attract international students to counter the impact of the blockade to its goal of having about 50 percent Qatari students and 50 percent foreign students including students from the region, according to Dean Holan. 

He also shared the plan to move HEC Paris in Qatar located in a premises within the Tornado Tower at present into a new building hopefully before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. 

'We are in advance conversation with Qatar Foundation for a new campus for HEC Paris in Qatar. We need to take the next steps and my vision for the new campus is to offer what Qatar deserves. I want the new campus to showcase how we teach business in the 21st century with a lot of new technology that enhances learning and collaboration, enhances connection between teachers and participants and technology that will make Qatar proud of what we have here, he said. 

HEC Paris has 60,000 alumni in 150 countries. The Doha campus has so far produced 850 alumni of which two-thirds are Qataris. Notably, the alumni network in Qatar is also made up of over 40 percent female.
