Kuwait SC win 58th basketball league trophy
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwait SC have been crowned champions of the 58th edition of the 2020-2019 basketball league championship after beating Kazma 80-78 Sunday night, winning the 11th title in their history.
The final game, held at Kazma SC, witnessed a strong competition between the two rivals, however Kuwait club's players managed to gain the match, adding a new record to their list.
Qadsia ranked third in the same competition after defeating Al Jahra 101-92.
President of the Kuwaiti Basketball Federation Rasheed Al-Enezi said the championship was marked by a good technical level of the teams with several matches.
Following honoring the winners, he told KUNA that the federation increased the number of the matches to develop players' performances as this had a positive impact on the Kuwaiti national team's players.
The local competitions will be suspended in the next period, as the Kuwaiti national team will prepare for the Gulf games to be held next April, he noted.
Six teams have won the basketball championship since its launch in the 1961-1962 season; Qadsia won the title 23 times, Kuwait SC 11, Kazma nine, Al Arabi 8, Al Jahra five and Al Sahel one. The tournament was cancelled in the 2000-2001 season. (end)
