All-rounder Muhumuza helps Uganda to their first win in Qatar


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Uganda salvaged some of their reputation as they routed President Eleven by 138 runs during the second 50-over-a-side match at the Asian Town Stadium on Friday.
It was all-rounder Deusdedit Muhumuza, who hit a half-century and followed it up with a three-wicket haul to play a stellar role in the tourists' romp. He was also declared Player of the Match and was presented the award by QCA Operations Manager Manzoor Ahmad.
Batting first, Uganda rode three half-centuries to post a challenging 282 for seven. Saud Islam dominated the 65-run opening stand with Roger Mukasa (14) as he smashed nine boundaries to get 57.
A 114-run alliance between skipper Brian Masaba and Muhumuza for the fourth wicket provided a solid platform for Uganda to build a healthy total. Masaba made 54 with a six and four boundaries, while Muhumuza hit 53, which included a six and three fours.
Frank Akankwasa and Fred Sehelam used long handle to consolidate Uganda further with a 45-run sixth-wicket partnership. Akankwasa took just 18 balls to collect 37 with four big sixes and a four, Sehelam added 17.
Zaheeruddeen Ibrahim and Saqlain Arshad gave a good start of 42 runs but President Eleven struggled to get runs after the former got run out for 26. Ibrahim had a six and two fours in his 35-ball knock.
Khurram Shahzad got out at the same score for duck and President Eleven folded up in 38th over. Arshad (23), Dharmang Patel (27) and Imran Ashraf (28 with two sixes and two fours) were other double-digit scorers.
Muhumuza and Henry Ssenyondo shared six wickets, while Frank Nsubuga, Richard Agamire and Trever Bukenya got one each.
