Qatar- QIB's programme benefits 344 pupils

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) and Injaz Qatar continue to deliver the innovative financial literacy programme, ‘How Money Works', to university and secondary school students in Qatar.
In the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, as many as 344 students from Qatar University (QU), Rawdat Rashed Secondary School and a Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) camp benefited from the programme, according to a statement.
The programme was also delivered to students from various schools in Qatar who attended a week-long series of career planning workshops in December. The workshops aimed at preparing students for their future career by helping them acquire skills such as communications, critical thinking, problem solving, as well as financial knowledge.
In September 2019, QIB and Injaz Qatar kicked off the second academic year of the three-year programme, which targets this year 400 students from universities, as well as private and government schools. More than 710 students have benefited from the programme since its launch in the 2018-2019 school year, the statement notes.
Mashaal Abdulaziz al-Derham, assistant general manager, head of corporate communications and quality assurance at QIB, said: 'The ‘How Money Works' initiative has been a major success since its launch in the 2018-2019 academic year. This initiative proves QIB's confidence in the potential of our youth and the banks' commitment to helping our future leaders acquire and develop the right saving and investment habits that will help them thrive in the future.
'We know from research that there is a need to raise awareness and promote basic financial concepts among the youth, and therefore we recognise that it is essential to empower them with financial knowledge. Our partnership with Injaz Qatar is providing Qatari youth with the necessary skills and tools required to make sound financial decisions today and in the future.
Kariman Mahmoud, programmes manager at Injaz Qatar, added: 'The partnership between QIB and Injaz Qatar on the ‘How Money Works' programme continues to achieve its objectives.
'We would like to thank all QIB volunteers, who devoted time to deliver the programme and share their experiences with the leaders of the future. Their efforts were highly-appreciated by all the beneficiaries.
The ‘How Money Works' programme provides financial education to students between 15 and 19 years, ranging from secondary school to university students. It teaches the youth how to manage money prudently through budgeting, saving, and investing.
The programme is delivered by QIB employees who volunteer to share their expertise, with support from Injaz Qatar volunteers. In the second semester of this school year, the programme will be delivered in February and March.
