Qatar- Asian Town marks National Sport Day


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Indian ambassador P Kumaran participated in multiple sports activities organised by the Ibn Ajayan Real Estate at Asian Town on Qatar's National Sport Day.

The ambassador highlighted the role of sports as an important factor in creating a healthy community at both physical and psychological levels, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 initiative, according to a press statement.

Asian Town celebrated National Sport Day by hosting a series of sports activities to highlight the importance of active and healthy lifestyles.

Thousands of people from different expatriate communities participated in the events led by senior officials on behalf of the organising company.

The activities started with a basketball tournament, followed by volleyball tournaments for both men and women, football, tug-of-war, Sepak takraw, football and a variety of fun games. The event also featured cycling, Zumba and a blood donation camp held in association with the Hamad Medical Corporation and BDK Qatar.

Ibn Ajayan Projects chairman Mohamed bin Mahdi bin Ajayan al-Ahbabi used the occasion to thank and appreciate all those who have helped build the country.

'As part of our vision to be at the heart of the community, we are committed to encouraging and engaging our employees and others in a healthy lifestyle at Asian Town, as we provide free-of-charge sports court for everyone to include sports in their daily activities, he said.

The winners of the different competitions are:

Tug-of-war: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Club - champions

Sepak takraw: Team Ilocos Sur - champions; Team Iloilo City - second; and Pampanga - third

Basketball: Team Aktor - champions; and Team Ibn Ajayan Projects - runners-up

Volleyball men's tournament: Team G4S 2 - champions; Team G4S 1 - second; and Team Aktor - third

Volleyball women's tournament: Team Alipores - champions; Army Lady Team - second; and Team PSD Oryx - third

Football: FMM Company - champions; and Ibn Ajayan Projects - runners-up

Kabaddi: MJ Group - champions; and Bin Omran - runners-up

Winners of the sports tournaments and competitions were awarded trophies and medals at a prize-distribution ceremony.
