Qatar- Guillambert rides Lekhraib to sprint feature victory

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Injaaz Stud's Lekhraib had never finished outside the money in ten races going back to February last year, and that record did not change in the horse's 11th straight outing yesterday as the six-year-old won for the second time this season at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's Al Rayyan Park.
Schooled by champion trainer Jassim Mohamed Ghazali, the colt lined up in The Late Rashid Mubarak Al Shafi Cup, the six-furlong sprint feature on dirt for four-year-old and older Arabians, under JP Guillambert.
At the post, Lekhraib had edged out Luca Maniezzi-ridden Tahri Baha by a little less than length for a fine win, his fourth overall.
It was the second victory on the day for the Ghazali-Guillambert combine.
An unexposed Fahdah Al Naif raced to her second victory of the season when Guillambert guided her to a comfortable victory in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap event for horses rated 85 and below yesterday.
The six-furlong sprint saw the eight-year-old mare, trained by Ghazali, carry the momentum from her last outing, a third-place finish over course and distance, and entered the winner's circle for the fourth time in her career.
In the penultimate race of the day, Anas al-Seyabi notched a hat-trick of sorts with Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained Dhergham Bu Thaila winning the Local Thoroughbred Conditions event on dirt.
The victory meant that the gelding has won for the third straight time under al-Seyabi, the most recent in January, and the first one in March last year. The penultimate race saw the five-year-old beat the competition with easy, winning by three-and-a-half lengths.
Said Khamis al-Mutani saddled his first winner at the Al Rayyan Park yesterday when Al Ghazali Stud's Crisscrossed bounced back from a string of forgettable finishes for a thrilling victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 75 and below. The eight-year-old topped the 1700m race by a half-a-length under a fantastic ride from Tomas Lukasek.
Abu Fass Stud's Florin De Faust held off a challenge from two Qatar bred rivals to win for the first time in his career yesterday. In the Purebred Arabian Handicap event, Mohamed Riyaz-trained horse edged out two wards of Jassim Mohamed Ghazali, as Leo Salles guided the five-year-old to a victory with three-quarters-of-a-length to spare.
It was a fantastic day in office for Qatari jockey Saleh Salem al-Marri who rode two straight winners on the day in two divisions of Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 70 and below. While Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari's Khafooq made a fantastic winning debut in the first, it was Ibrahim Hassan al-Malki al-Jehani's Skip The Queue who stormed to a dominant 13-length victory in the six-furlong sprint on dirt.
Earlier in the day, Mansoor Mesfer al-Hajri's Shaleesh and Abdulatif Hussain al-Emadi's Sky Blue registered their first victories respectively. While Gary Sanchez rode Shaleesh to a close win in the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate, Eduardo Pedroza was in the saddle of Ibrahim al-Malki-schooled Sky Blue in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate.
