LONDON, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- Lord Mayor of the City of London William Russell has said there would be great investment opportunities following completion of Brexit.
Brexit had ended following more than three and a half years of wranglings between Britain and the European Union (EU), Russell said and voiced optimism of diversified investment opportunities in London in particular and Britain in general.
Russell, in an interview with KUNA ahead of his official visit to Kuwait early next week, said he would explain to Kuwaiti officials and businessmen the post-Brexit state-of-play.
He described Kuwait as a friend and an important investor, which has wide ranging commercial relations in Britain and contributed to many vital projects.
Russell said he would discuss with the Kuwaiti officials, investors and representatives of the Cultural sector the investment and cooperation opportunities, particularly in relation to environment.
Future of economic relationship between Kuwait and Britain, he added, would always remain strong and constructive because it was based on solid historic basis.
Officials in the two countries will have bigger space now to move cooperation and relationship to new heights, he said.
Russell played down fears capitals would be affected in City of London following Brexit.
He said the development of financial services in London and emergence of new tools like environment-friendly finances and financial technology (Fintech) would make the Britiah capital an indispensable economy.
Many had, following the 2016 Brexit referendum, predicted financial institutions to leave London but the opposite happened, he said, and the City of London continued its upward trend and succeeded in turning around losses with big gains.
The new majority government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, said Russell, would encourage investors to contribute to economic projects the country planned to launch soon.
The City of London has been working for more than 800 years to maintaining economic and financial leadership of the British capital, as well as seeking to attract investors including those from State of Kuwait.
Russell is due to begin an official visit to Kuwait on Monday, and is scheduled to meet Minister of Finance Maryam Al-Aqeel, Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Farouk Bastaki, as well as officials representing trade and economic sectors. (end) kd.bs
