Kuwait- EU, Arab League discuss regional developments in Brussels meeting


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- The European Union's Political and Security Committee (PSC) and the Arab League on the level of permanent representatives began a meeting in Brussels Thursday to discuss a wide range of issues.
Kuwait's permanent representative to the Arab League in Cairo, Ahmad Al-Baker, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Kuwait TV ahead of the meeting that today's session is the eighth gathering between delegates of the Arab League and the EU's PSC.
"The cooperation between the two sides is continuing for a long time," he said and noted that today's discussions will deal with a set of issues that concern the two sides.
The Palestine question and the Middle East Peace Process top the agenda followed by other regional issues such the situation in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Iran as well as issues related to migration, refugees and terrorism.
"Of course, the relationship between the Arab countries and the European Union has progressed to an advanced stages," said Al-Baker and noted that last year the Arab League and the European Union held their first summit in Sharm Al Sheikh in Egypt.
He said that yesterday the two sides held an unofficial meeting in Brussels in which the issue of climate change and its impact on security, including political, regional or food security was discussed.
Many ideas were discussed on how to cooperate and transfer expertise and experiences to deal with the climate change, he said.
Al-Baker added that the Arab countries are more affected from climate change, and the European side expressed its willingness to contribute to find solutions to these problems. (end)
