Clashes erupt in Beirut as security forces crack down on demonstrators

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Beirut, Jan. 22 (Petra) -- Clashes erupted on Wednesday near the Lebanese Parliament in central Beirut as security forces cracked down on demonstrators.
Demonstrators demanded the ousting of the fledgling government that had been formed Tuesday evening with Hassan Diab as the Prime Minister, and they called on the Parliament not to give a vote of confidence to the government.
Demonstrators threw stones at security forces, as the latter responded by hurling teargas canisters and using water hoses to disperse the demonstrators.
