India sees its domestic air traffic drop to 3.7 percent

The domestic air passenger traffic expansion in India has decreased from 18.60 percent in 2019 to set at 3.74 percent in 2019, according to the most recent data published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India.

The drop in the expansion of domestic air passenger traffic was attributed to the subdued economy and the grounding of private airlines Jet Airways.

Data showed that domestic scheduled carriers transported 144.17 million passengers in the year in comparison with 138.98 million in 2018.

A DGCA official said that "This is a bit disappointing. In 2019 we faced headwinds on account of Jet Airways, but 2020 is going to be different and the double-digit growth should be back sooner rather than later".
