The Indian Consulate in Dubai is assisting a group of around 60 Indian workers who are left in the lurch by their companies that were unable to pay their salaries for the last six to eight months and also failed to provide them basic necessities such as food and other provisions.
Elaborating on the case, Consul General Vipul told Khaleej Times that the workers were employed with two companies that were run by two Indian expatriates that fell into financial crisis off late. "Out if the 100 employees the companies have, 60 are Indians. One of the partner of the companies is in Al Awir jail, while the other one has run away to India leaving the workers at the mercy of the company HR that is now struggling to pay of their dues."
Vipul said the case came light when one of the workers complained at the ministry here, which then alerted the Indian consulate about the workers' precarious condition.
"Our team immediately got in touch with the workers at their labour accommodation in Jafza and have provided them with food, ration and other basic provisions. We have also been in constant contact with the company officials in Dubai and are pushing the HR of the company to settle their dues and send them off at the earliest."
Vipul said that the workers will file a labour case now and are hopeful their dues will get settled in the next two to three weeks by the company that is now being managed by it's HR staff.
On Monday, the consulate tweeted a picture of the workers receiving food items and ration sent by the Indian consulate.
