Doha: As part of the initiative to promote the game of golf in Qatar, Commercial Bank, Qatar's award-winning private bank, and Education City Golf Club (ECGC) have teamed up to support local schools in providing golf activities. This initiative comes to support schools' curriculum and after-school activities.

'Start New at Golf or SNAG is a unique golf instruction system and equipment through which Education City Golf Club and Commercial Bank are aiming to help children develop golf skills and a level of competency. ECGC golf professionals will train school teachers on how to deliver golf tuition to their pupils in school gymnasiums and playgrounds. Ultimately, when the children get to a level of competency, they will be eligible to visit ECGC and experience golf for real.

Commenting on the initiative, Michael Braidwood, General Manager Education City Golf Club said: 'Golf is a perfect sport for children to try as it possesses many health and wellbeing attributes. It teaches them some key core skills such as patience, focus and dedication, in addition to encouraging children to go outdoors and be active. Given that, we believe such an initiative would benefit our local community as well as future generations. And, as part of our partnership with Commercial Bank, we have started distributing the SNAG kits, starting with Kings College School, and more will follow very soon.

As for Commercial Bank, it has donated ten customized SNAG kit bags that include enough equipment to train up to 16 children at a time. Hussein Al Abdulla, Chief Marketing Officer at Commercial Bank said: 'Our latest partnership with ECGC comes to attest our commitment as a bank to support our local community and promote Qatar National Vision 2030. In other words, we highly value sport activities as they build healthier relationships in the society and bring people together.

Abeer Marwan Al Kalla, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR commented, 'Golf is not only a classy and sophisticated sport, it is an activity that helps children practice skills such as concentration and learn values such as patience and persistence to achieve objectives. Overall, playing golf will contribute to enhancing children's cognitive and academic skills and learnings. As a Bank and as members in this community, this initiative reflects our commitment to support younger generation growth and development.
