Qatar- French Embassy, Elite Paper Recycling ink pact

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Elite Paper Recycling (EPR), Qatar's first paper recycling company, and the French Embassy signed an agreement yesterday under the former's Green Embassies Program in Qatar aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and recycling across their programs and activities.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held yesterday at his residence, H E Franck Gellet, the Ambassador of France to Qatar, noted that the French Embassy and EPR have already had a good cooperation which had been going on for two years and the agreement will formalize that relationship.
The ambassador views the agreement  as  'a new impetus to this cooperation and a new framework for our partnership that has started from 2017 and we believe that it is a perfect illustration of the involvement of the French Embassy in Qatar in environmental issues. We hope that this partnership will be used as an example for others and that together we will continue our work for awareness of this important issue in Qatar and beyond.
He added that the agreement is also a way to herald the commitment that the two countries have to fight against global warming.
H E Gellet recalled how France and Qatar shared the same vision and willingness to fight global warming as demonstrated during the United Nations General Assembly last year
'You might remember that in September last year at the UN General Assembly in New York our two Heads of State, President Macron and H H the Amir co-chaired the Climate Finance Initiative in which the Amir announced a contribution of $100m which is very significant to the Green Climate Fund, he said.
The ambassador also highlighted how the signing of the agreement with EPR came at an important time coinciding with Qatar-France 2020 Year of Culture.
Abdulla Al Suwaidi, Chairman of EPR, stressed how the relationship between EPR and the French Embassy had become an important precursor of what the company had accomplished.
'Elite Paper  is now recycling more than 3,500 tonnes of paper per month, and that all started two years ago with the French Embassy, said Al Suwaidi, recalling that the first recycling event they had was with the French Embassy.
Al Suwaidi stressed that they are taking raising awareness on recycling among the new generation seriously with environmental crises such as the Australian wildfires.
In a bid to further intensify its awareness campaign, EPR is launching next week a state-of-the-art 'Eco Dome — an edutainment facility aimed at raising awareness of the crucial importance of paper recycling.
