Jordan agro exports 5pct in 2019 at JD441

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 16 (Petra) -- Jordan's agricultural exports picked up by 5 percent in 2019 to a total of JD441 million (USD662 million) compared with JD420 million in 2018 and JD360 million in 2017, according to a Ministry of Agriculture official.
Still, the quantities exported are no longer the primary criterion for development, but rather the value of these exports, as the World Bank estimates that the value of Jordanian horticultural goods has been estimated at one billion dollars in foreign markets, the highest estimate during the last three years, Director of Marketing and Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Agriculture, Ayman Al-Salti said on Thursday.
He told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that there has been a significant improvement in high-value crop exports to the European market, especially of okra and leaf vegetables, knowing that the requirements of importing countries have become more stringent than in the past, especially with regard to the permissible level of agricultural pesticide residues.
