(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has held meetings with partners from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the United Nations, to further establish humanitarian diplomacy regionally and globally.
The Secretary-General of QRCS, Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, met the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in Doha, Amir B Ahmeti, and Consul and First Secretary, Esheref Haxhiu. The meeting was attended by Abdullah Hassan Al Mehshadi, General Director of Relief and International Division, and Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations. Al Hammadi welcomed the guests, saying the meeting was a culmination of previous meetings between representatives of QRCS and the Red Cross of Kosovo during the Statutory Meetings in Geneva.
Earlier, Al Hammadi had a visit to Prishtina, Kosovo, to develop mutual relations between the two National Societies. He expressed all support to the Kosovan partners, through cooperation, exchange of visits, and arrangement of an international humanitarian conference soon.
Ahmeti said the Embassy of Kosovo had been recently opened. He had introductory meetings with top officials to deepen relations and hold dialogue on topics of common interest. 'I would like to thank QRCS for its contributions worldwide, particularly for the vulnerable.
Dr. Oussedik said QRCS was a main member of the Red Cross of Kosovo Friends Association, mobilizing support and removing obstacles to declare the National Society member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Geneva Conventions. This will pave the way for future cooperation, under the supervision of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities.
Another meeting was held with Mukul Bhola, CEO of the Defeat NCD Partnership, an organ of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The meeting was attended by Director of Communication, Muhsen Abdullah Al Maliki; Director of the Office of the President, Adel Ali Al Baker, and Dr. Oussedik.
The organization, Bhola explained, was established in 2018 in New York, to help tackle noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. To that end, it builds public-private-people partnerships in 90 countries, in coordination with World Health Organization (WHO).
Al Hammadi welcomed a framework memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed between QRCS and the Defeat NCD Partnership, as a legal basis for global collaboration. They would explore what every party can contribute, to ensure concerted efforts in the countries where both parties operate.
The UN guest was invited to visit the health facilities managed by QRCS under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), to have an idea about the latest advancements in the medical sector in Qatar.
