(MENAFN- VPS Healthcare ) Abu Dhabi: A delegation of the Indonesian Ministry of Health visited Burjeel Medical City, a 400-bed tertiary and quaternary care hospital under VPS Healthcare in Abu Dhabi's Mohammed Bin Zayed City.
The 15-member delegation headed by HE Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto, Health Minister of Indonesia, was joined by HE Husin Bagis, Indonesian ambassador to the UAE, several government officials and industry leaders.
The delegation was received by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman & Managing Director, VPS Healthcare, who briefed the visitors about Burjeel Medical City.
He gave an overview of the specialties and services available in the hospital and elucidated about the research center and oncology treatment for adult and pediatric subspecialties, long-term and palliative care (including immunotherapy and molecularly targeted therapies).
Dr. Vayalil highlighted the state-of-the-art techniques the hospital has adopted, the high-quality expertise they have and the importance of multi-disciplinary care in dealing with complex surgeries such as pediatric cancer cases.
The delegation discussed ways to garner opportunities through collaboration in the field of cancer care.
HE Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto said that the objective of the visit is to meet with leading healthcare institutions in the UAE and explore collaborative opportunities with an aim to further strengthen the health sector in Indonesia.
'Burjeel Medical City is one of the best facilities I have seen. The architecture of the hospital is exquisite and gives a pleasant feeling to the patient. I hope the patient who comes to this hospital gets the best care and cured,' he added.
Dr. Vayalil said that they were proud to host the Indonesian Health Minister and the official delegation in Burjeel Medical City.
"The visit is significant as both the UAE and Indonesia are exploring ways to collaborate in various sectors. VPS Healthcare aims to boost the prospects of medical tourism in the region. We have a specially designed programs for local and international patients in Burjeel Medical City. BMC will devote significant resources toward developing clinical research programs and trials to develop customized approaches for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and drug development for targeted oncology therapies. We have also deliberated on how to support each other in the medical sector to evolve a strong medical ecosystem. We are also exploring the possibilities for collaboration in the area of drug manufacturing and supply," he added.
The delegation also visited LifePharma in Jebel Ali. VPS Healthcare's pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Jebel Ali is the country's sole facility certified by the US Food and Drug Administration.
