Tokyo shares started flat on Tuesday after a weak lead from Wall Street overnight as investors stopped making bold moves ahead of policy meetings at central banks in Europe and the U.S. this week.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average droppped 0.10 percent to set at 23,407.69 points.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange increased 0.11 percent to 1,723.95 points.
Pulp and paper, oil and coal product, and electric power and gas issues dropped the most, pharmaceutical and farm and fishery issues increased the most.
