Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary-General: National Day embodies many concepts and values


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) H E Jassim Rashid Al Buainain has said that the celebration of the National Day of Qatar, embodies many concepts and values, and it is an occasion that shows the extent of solidarity and cohesion between the wise leadership and the people of Qatar and its residents.
He said in a statement to QNA that there are many lessons that can be learned from this occasion perhaps the most important struggle of the ancestors and how they endured difficulties in order to achieve national unity, and the role of the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, in the establishment of the rules of Qatar.
He noted that the preservation of the values and principles established by the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani comes by tracing and following his sacrifices to this country.
H E Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee stressed that contributing to the uplift of the homeland is a duty of all who live on its territory, whether citizens or residents and therefore everyone is required to play its role in building and development of the country.
H E Al Buainain praised the achievements witnessed by the country in various fields.
H E explained in this regard that the National Day is, in fact, an opportunity to highlight the achievements of the State in all areas, including sports field, which has witnessed a great boom and great achievements at all levels, and at the same time we are confident that the future will be more prosperous under the wise leadership of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
His Excellency added that QOC strive to fulfil its role to the fullest and contribute effectively to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 and therefore continue to develop continuously through a number of plans, programs and projects that will ensure that the pace of work is accelerated in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and achieve the goals of this ambitious plan.
His Excellency revealed that the current year 2019 has witnessed many sports achievements at various levels, most notably the victory of the first Qatari national football team to the Asian Cup held in the UAE for the first time in the history of Qatar football, as well as Champion Mutaz Essa Barshim who won the gold medal for the high jump competition and Abderrahman Samba who won the bronze medal for the 400m hurdles at the world athletics championships in Doha 2019.
His Excellency added that a number of Qatari athletes have also qualified for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games - Tokyo 2020, and to date, athletics champions Mutaz Essa Barshim, Abderrahman Samba, Abu Bakr Haider, Qatari jumping team and Rami Al Rumaihi who also qualified for this important event.
H E Al Buainain said that the achievements of this year also is Qatari weightlifter Faris Ibrahim who won two silver medals in the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships, and the Qatari beach handball team who won the Asian Championship.
H E pointed out that the achievements were also present at the level of special needs tournaments by winning 13 medals at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games held in the UAE, and Qatar won the goal ball for the blind of the West Asian Paralympic Games 2019, in addition to the level of women's sport, the Qatari teams won 34 medals in the sixth edition of Gulf Women's Sports Tournament.
