(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka: The Peninsula Chittagong won the Meillur Décor HPL 2019 (Hotelier's Premier League), organised by Hospitality Unity of Bangladesh (HUB), yesterday.
Among the teams from 13 top hotels of the country, The Peninsula Chittagong won the champion's cup beating the runners-up Le Meridien Dhaka by ten wickets in the finals.
Apart from the glorious champion's trophy, The Peninsula Chittagong won BDT 1,00,000 while the runners-up Le Meridien Dhaka won BDT 20,000.
Mohammad Noor Ali, Managing Director, Unique Hotel and Resorts Ltd, the owning company of The Westin Dhaka inaugurated the final match at the event.
'The Peninsula Chittagong is well-known for its cricketing culture. Winning this tournament adds another feather in our hat. Le Meridien Dhaka played a fantastic game. And the tournament offered a unique opportunity to bring many hotels from different parts of our country under one umbrella and connect better than before. It promises to be even bigger next year,' said Mushtak Luhar, General Manager, The Peninsula Chittagong.
Lakeshore Hotels and Six Seasons Hotel were the other two semifinalists in the tournament.
Shakawath Hossain, CEO, Unique Hotel and Resorts Ltd, Daniel Muhor, Cluster General Manager, Marriott International, Yameenul Huq, Director of Sales and Marketing, The Westin Dhaka, Al-Amin, General Manager, Six Seasons Hotel and Mahfuzur Rahman, Managing Director, Meillur Décor Ltd handed over trophies, cheques and awards to the winners.
'This tournament showed that we do not belong to any individual hotel, rather to the industry,' said Al-Amin.
The three-day tournament took place from December 5-7 at Ashkona. Besides cricket, the event featured food, music and other fun activities creating a memorable experience for all participating in it.
Among other participants, there were Four Points by Sheraton, Hansa, The Way Dhaka, Ascott Dhaka, Platinum Hotels by Sheltech, Best Western Plus Maple Leaf, Amari Dhaka, Long Beach Suites Dhaka and The Westin Dhaka.
Meilleur Décor Ltd was the Title Sponsor of the tournament while Coca Cola was the Beverage Sponsor and Munshi and Bengal Meat were the Associate Sponsors.
The Bangladesh Monitor, premier travel trade fortnightly was the Print Media Partner of the event while Radio Foorti was the Radio Partner.
