Kuwait and Bahrain target semi-final spot

Ten-time champions at the Arabian Gulf Cup Kuwait will be aiming to extend their superiority at the regional championship when they take on Bahrain clash in the winner takes it all clash at the Abdulla Bin Khalifa Stadium today.

Both teams need a win to qualify for the last four stage, but only one can make it at the expense of the other.

Kuwait have three points from two matches with one win and one loss, while Bahrain have a lone point to show against their name.

Defending champions Oman lead the group with four points from two matches and take on Saudi Arabia in today's other match. Saudi Arabia need a win while Oman can make it to the next stage with a draw.

Kuwait coach Thamer Enad said the match against Bahrain was an early ‘final'.

'Bahrain is a strong team, but I have confidence in the players and the ability to return to victory. We wish we can make our fans happy again after the loss against Oman, Kuwait which began on a winning note by stunning Saudi Arabia, lost to Oman in the second match.

'We need a complete change in tactics and attack, and we need good preparations and good concentration, Enad said.

'Bahrain is a champion of West Asia, a developed team, and has a group of good players, a smart coach, and very strong players, he added.

Bahrain coach Hélio Sousa said his team is ready for the fierce challenge of Kuwait.

'We faced Saudi Arabia, a strong team. We are at the bottom of the ranking and we are not in the best condition, but it is in our hands, and we will play to win and qualify. 'We are struggling in this group because we are trying to build a strong team. All games are difficult at the physical, technical level, he added.
