Cyprus sees rise in jobless rate

(MENAFN)

Data published by the European statistical service, Eurostat, showed on Friday that the jobless rate in Cyprus has increased to reach 7.1 percent in October from 7 percent in the earlier month, after a continues decline in jobs in summer.

The increase is largely due to the seasonal closing of some hotels by the end of the tourist season, as tourism is a big industry in Cyprus, according to analysts.

However, jobless rate has declined 0.4 percent from 7.5 percent in October of the previous 2018.

The unemployment in Cyprus had increased to more than 16 percent at the height of the financial crisis in 2013.
