Qatar- Amir, President of Armenia discuss bilateral ties


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, held official talks at the Amiri Diwan yesterday.

They discussed bilateral relations and ways of developing and enhancing them to new horizons of cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, agriculture, tourism and food security.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of issues of common concern. The meeting was attended by a number of Their Excellences the ministers and on the Armenian side, a number of Their Excellencies members of the official delegation. An official reception was held for the President of Armenia upon his arrival at the Amiri Diwan.  H H the Amir also hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of President and the delegation accompanying him. The banquet was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the ministers. 

Earlier,  the President of Armenia expressed his thanks to the Amir, the Government of Qatar and the Qatari people for their cordial reception and generous hospitality, praising the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries. This came during the opening of the new headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Doha on Monday evening, and his meeting with the Armenian community in Qatar. 

Relations between Qatar and Armenia have been growing in many sectors since their establishment on November 5, 1997. These relations have been strengthened over the years through visits by senior officials, notably the visits of former Armenian Presidents Robert Kocharyan to Doha in 2002 and Serzh Sargsyan in 2009 and 2017, during which official talks focused on bilateral relations as well as major regional and international issues. In the framework of keenness to support and develop bilateral relations in various fields, the two countries are bound by a set of agreements and memorandums of understanding.
