Al-Shalamjah border crossing blocked to passengers from Iraq

(MENAFN) The Iranian authorities on Saturday closed a border crossing to passengers in southern Iraq amid remonstrations in Iran after the Iranian government on Friday began rationing of subsidized gasoline and moved up its prices.

"Al-Shalamjah border crossing has been blocked to all passengers from Iraq to Iran, but still opened for commercial trucks from both sides", as said by spokesman of the Iraqi Border Crossing Board, Alaa al-Din al-Qaysi

Al-Qaysi also said that, the Iraqi passengers in the Iranian side can cross into Iraq as normal and that the blocking of the border crossing was a response to Iranian request due to the anti-government remonstrations inside Iran.
