(MENAFN- The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN)) AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) on Tuesday recommended conducting an environmental assessment, studies and comprehensive field surveys of Baqura and Al Ghamr.
“Baqura and Al Ghamr may be uniquely biodiverse, as they are situated in one of the most important environmental locations for biodiversity in the region,” said RSCN Director General Yehya Khaled in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Khaled stressed the necessity of conducting an assessment in both regions to better understand their environmental significance and incorporate this understanding into plans for growth and development in the future.
The RSCN director general expressed the society’s readiness to conduct these studies in cooperation with the concerned agricultural, water, tourism and environmental civil society institutions.
Baqura and Al Ghamr are agricultural borderlands, with the former lying east of the Jordan River in the northwestern corner of the Kingdom, close to the biodiverse Yarmouk Forests Reserve, and boasts an area of 820 dunums, Petra reported.
Al Ghamr, with an estimated area of 4,235 dunums, lies south of the Dead Sea within the Aqaba Governorate, close to the Fifa Nature Reserve and along the bird migration path.
