QCS and Carrefour Qatar officials visit young cancer patients at Sidra Medicine

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) and Carrefour Qatar recently organised a visit to Sidra Medicine to meet with young cancer patients. The visit was aimed at empowering children living with cancer, as well as offering emotional support to their families. The ‘Patient's Visits' programme was launched by QCS to  provide psychological and social support for cancer patients and provide a positive impact about treatment.

Rahaf Wasfi, Support Group Officer at QCS, said: 'This initiative emphasises the charity's role in psychologically supporting children living with cancer. In addition to this, QCS has invested QR8.2m towards the treatment and care of cancer patients and has helped 1,100 patients during the first half of 2019. Providing smooth and efficient access to cancer care services and support systems is a priority of the QCS especially to help with the high costs of treatment.

Wasfi pointed out that hospital visits emphasise the importance of providing psychological support for children and to bring some joy into their lives. She explained QCS's keenness to involve young children in society and sharing their stories to help raise awareness.

Wasfi thanked partners of its 'Patient's Visit program, especially Carrefour Qatar, who supported the visit by sponsoring the gifts and Sidra Medicine for welcoming the team and providing access to the children and their families.  'We hope that such visits and engagement with cancer patients will inspire and encourage other organisations in Qatar to actively contribute to increase the community awareness about cancer and support those living with the disease.

Shaikha Al Mahmoud, Director of Patient Experience at Sidra Medicine, said: 'As a patient and family centred hospital, Sidra Medicine welcomes the support of leading institutions like Qatar Cancer Society to help raise community awareness about pediatric cancer.
Laurent Hausknecht, Country Manager of Carrefour in Qatar, said: 'Supporting the communities in which we operate in is a core part of what we do, as such, we were honoured to be a part of this important initiative.
