(MENAFN) An official release said that, throughout a police operation on Thursday in Djougou, about 425 km northwest to the economic capital Cotonou in Benin, three suspected smugglers were detained in possession of four elephant tusks, weighing 14 kg.
These alleged traffickers should show themselves before Justice to answer for their acts, as said in the release.
In Benin, the law imposes a fine of between USD 504.36 and 1,345 or a time of custody from 6 months up to 5 years on whomever unlawfully imports, exports, re-exports or markets wild animals or their trophies and relics.
