DOHA: CHANSS-Qatar, the Doha chapter of the alumni association of NSS College, Changanacherry, one of the oldest educational institutions in Central Kerala, celebrated the South Indian state's traditional festival, Onam, with pomp and gaiety at the Skills Development Centre here last weekend.

More than 300 people, including children and family members, participated in the day-long function.

The event featured several cultural programmes and competitions, including traditional items like Thiruvathirakali, Valla Paattu, Naadan Paattu, classical and folk dances, songs, skits etc.

The highlight, however, was the Chenda Melam (a percussion instrument) by the Meladhwani team led by Ajeesh.

Onam Sadya (a traditional vegetarian feast comprising of more than 25 dishes) was served in typical Kerala style, on banana leaves.

CHANSS President Bindu Varghese welcomed the gathering while General Secretary Pradeep Chandran presented a report on the association's activities during the year and later proposed a vote of thanks.

The event was supported by Space Trading and Emerging Qatar.
