Gov't says effort ongoing to release Jordanians detained by Israeli authorities

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed on Tuesday its continuous efforts to secure the release of Jordanian citizens Heba Abdel-Baqi and Abdel-Rahman Marei, who are detained by Israel.
Spokesman of the ministry, Sufian al-Qudah, said that the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv worked in cooperation with the ministry, and demanded in his meetings and frequent contacts with the Israeli side the immediate release of the Jordanian citizens and the facilitating of their return to the Kingdom as soon as possible.
The ambassador in Tel Aviv reiterated the Kingdom's rejection of the Israeli authorities' decision to arrest the two, pointing out that the embassy in Tel Aviv had been instructed to pay them regular visits at their confinement, he added.
He said Hiba was still on hunger strike, making it more urgent for her to be released.
He stressed that the ministry will continue its effort to secure the immediate release of Heba and Abdel-Rahman. In addition, through diplomatic channels, the Jordanian ambassador will continue following up on investigations to ensure their legal rights, and follow the conditions of detention until their release.
