Fortis, Gurugram creates awareness on robotic and laparoscopic surgeries for cancer

(MENAFN- ForPressRelease) 18 Gorakhpur, October 10, 2019: Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram in collaboration with City Hospital and Saanvi Clinic, Gorakhpur runs a super specialty OPD for Cancer surgery for breast, head & neck, cervical & gastro-intestinal (GI) cancers. The OPD is operational on every second Friday of each month in Gorakhpur by Dr. Alok Tiwari, Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. The OPD is operational at 2 locations - 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at City Hospital (Medical College Road, Moglaha) and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Sanvi Health Care Centre (Rail Vihar Phase2 Raptinagar Phase 4 ).

Dr. Alok Tiwari, Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, said 'I am doing OPD in Gorakhpur from more than one year. I have observed that breast cancer, head and neck cancers, gallbladder cancer, and cervical cancers are more common in this region. Most of these cases required complex radical curative surgeries. With the advancement of robotic and laparoscopic surgery, now we can give better comfortable outcome compared to open surgery. In abdominal cancers we are routinely doing robotic and laparoscopic surgeries and results of such surgeries are very good, due to shorter hospital stay, minimal postoperative pain and lesser supportive care requirement. This makes minimally invasive surgeries more cost effective at the end.'

Some cancer cases may require radical cancer surgeries which may be painful and mutilating. Open radical cancer surgical procedures require longer time for post-op recovery. Gradually with the recent technological advents in the field of laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, cancer surgeries are becoming minimally invasive with minimal discomfort, thus enabling onco-surgeons to cure the patient with less pain, small scar and shorter hospital stay.

'Breast cancer is now one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer among females and we have diagnosed many cases from Gorakhpur. Now there is a paradigm shift in the management of breast cancer, from complete removal of breast to more aesthetic breast conserving surgeries. At Fortis Hospital we are doing breast conserving surgeries as well as sentinel lymph node biopsy so patient does not require unnecessary complete removal of breast and axilla. This helps the lady to retain the essence of her womanhood adding psychosomatic benefits with lesser incidence of lymphedema, arm swelling. We also encourage patient to have primary breast reconstructive or onco-plastic procedures at the time of primary surgery.' said Dr. Tiwari.

Dr. Ritu Garg, Zonal Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram said,'The key purpose of this OPD is to extend our state-of-the-art services to the people of Gorakhpur. Our experienced and highly qualified doctors have already created their own milestones in their respective fields and are now inclined to serve the people of North Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The OPD service and related facilities is yet another patient-centric step taken by the country's leading healthcare provider to deliver quality healthcare through world-class services.'
