Arab FMs slam Turkish aggression on Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 12 (KUNA) -- Arab foreign ministers on Saturday demanded Turkey to "unconditionally" pull out its troops from Syrian territories, holding Ankara responsible for the consequences of its ongoing military offensive on the Arab country.
This came in statements by the ministers during the urgent meeting in Cairo to discuss the Turkish military operation.
Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir said the Kingdom condemns the Turkish incursion in northeastern Syria and demands an immediate end to it.
"The Turkish offensive deepens the suffering of the Syrian people," he reaffirmed.
The attack will negatively affect the security of the region, he added, stressing that Saudi Arabia supports a political solution to the conflict; as he also demanded the withdrawal of all foreign militias from Syrian territories.
For his part, UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash also condemned the Turkish offensive. "We call for the exit of Turkey and its forces, as well as all foreign forces that have violated this Arab country, and to push for a successful political solution."
Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil expressed his rejection of the Turkish operation, saying: "Our interest lies in Arab unity that protects our territory."
Moreover, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri said the "Turkish regime is trying to escape its crises by forging ahead in aggressive policies."
He warned that the offensive gives the so-called Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist organizations the opportunity to reemerge and regroup.
On his part, Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rashid Beldahan reiterated his country's categorical rejection of violating states' sovereignty "under any circumstances," expressing full solidarity with Syria in protecting its territorial integrity.
He reiterated Algeria's support for the efforts of the UN special envoy to Syria. (pickup previous)
