(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sep.29 (Petra)-- Seven local companies have been awarded tenders for installing solar cell systems in 2213 households benefiting from the National Aid Fund (NAF), according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati.
The first phase of the project, funded by the Fils Al Reef Department and already started in the Kingdom's governorates, is expected to be completed within 120 to 180 days, depending on the duration of each bid, amounted to 12 bids, Zawati said Sunday in a statement.
She said the project aims at alleviating poverty by cutting down on electricity bills of beneficiaries, and the ministry shall bear the cost of installing solar cell systems for the targeted groups.
Also, this project will indirectly contribute to increasing the monthly income of this segment and improve its economic conditions, Zawati added.
The project is important in terms of spreading a culture of ethical power consumption by utilising sustainable energy sources and increasing their contribution to the total energy mix, Zawati noted.
The Fils Al Reef Department is accepting applicants who are already beneficiaries of the NAF, whose monthly consumption does not exceed 300 kilowatts per hour, except for the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, and who have enough space to install the system.
