Qatar- Winners of Katara Prize for Prophet's Poet honoured


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The fourth edition of the Katara Prize for Prophet's Poet declared the winners during its awards ceremony at Katara Opera House yesterday. Six winners were honoured at the end of the competition.

The Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud; Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, H E Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari; Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, H E Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi; Minister of State, H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari; Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, and Their Excellencies Sheikhs and the ambassadors accredited to the State and  a large audience witnessed the closing ceremony.

In the classical poetry section, Moroccan poet, Mohamed Oraij, took home QR1m by winning first prize, while Egyptian poet, Hassan Aamer, came second by winning QR700,000 followed by compatriot Alsayed Abou El Wafa in third place winning QR 400,000.

Qatari poet Salih Mohammed Alnishaira Al Marri took home the top prize in the colloquial poetry category winning QR1m. Kuwaiti poet, Muhammad Mitaib Alajamai, won second place while Omani poet Hamoud Abdullah bin Hamad Al Mikhaini placed third winning QR700,000 and QR400,000 respectively.

Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, presented the commemorative shields to the winners.

The 30 shortlisted poems, which entered the final round, will be published by Katara Publishing House in a book. It will also be made available in CD format.  The sponsors of the prize are Qatar TV (media sponsor), Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs, Masraf Al Rayan, and Rasool Channel.
