Huge blast in northern Afghanistan


(MENAFN) Locals and an official said on Monday that, a depot full of explosives and a mine-making plant of the Taliban militant group blew up accidently in Afghanistan's northeastern Kunduz region.


deputy district chief Qudratullah Safi said that, the incident occurred Sunday night in the Khan Abad region, where a weapons and arms supply storage and a mine-making factory of the Taliban militants blew up, causing the destruction of a building of rice cleaning machine, a mill and three residential units.


The official said that, Hundreds of tons of rice and wheat have been flamed through the explosion, he said, "Nobody was hurt when the blast took place, but people sustained huge financial losses as a result," Taliban militants have been using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to create roadside bombs and landmines.


The Interior Ministry said previous that, the Afghan security forces found and defused 12 IEDs in Faryab and Paktia regions on Sunday, no direct cause has been revealed for the blast until now and the Taliban militants have not commented on the report.
