Kuwait Housing Min. participates in UN SDGs' meeting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Public Works Dr. Jenan Ramadhan participated in a ministerial meeting at the UN to discuss means of activating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were endorsed by world leaders in 2015.
Ramadhan, also Minister of State for Housing Affairs, said the meeting aimed at discussing relations between SDGs and human settlements, and Kuwait highlighted its efforts to implement SDGs.
Ramadhan, speaking to KUNA following the meeting that was held last night, said she would also participate in high-level meetings with Director General of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and director of the UN Human Settlement Program (UN-Habitat) as well as meet with a number of UN member countries to discuss means of accelerating sustainable development.
Cities around the globe, she said, were experiencing unprecedented demographic, environmental, economic and social challenges coupled with growing population in urban areas.
"Projections show that six out of 10 persons will live in urban areas by 2030, and 90 percent of this growth will be in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean," said Ramadhan.
This growth, she added, required proper planning or people would still live in poor conditions.
Ramadhan is part of Kuwait's delegation taking part in the UN's 74th General Assembly Session, chaired by representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. (end)
