India: nine killed over road accident


(MENAFN) A senior police official on Monday said that, nine people, including a woman, have died and 12 others wounded in a road accident in India's north-eastern state Assam.


Superintendent of Police Amitav Sinha said via phone that, the accident occurred when two buses coming from opposite direction crashed head-on, the accident took place in Demow area of the state's Sivasagar region.


Sinha also said that, "Nine dead bodies have been recovered from the accident site, and the 12 injured have been sent to the Dibrugarh Medical College. Some of the injured are said to be in a serious condition,"


The mishap happened at around 0845 hours (Indian Standard Time), when the bus travelling from Golaghat to Dibrugarh crashed with the minibus coming from the differing direction on the National Highway 37, as said by him.

State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed condolences over the dead in the accident.
