Rhino poaching in S. Africa decreases

Barbara Creecy, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, said that rhino poaching has significantly dropped in South Africa as a result of intensified anti-poaching efforts.

In the period from January to June of the current year, the number of rhinos poached around the country was 318, in comparison with 386 in the same period last year.

The Kruger National Park in bears the brunt of rhino poaching, decreasing 190 rhinos in the starting six months of the year.

The park had a total of 1,202 incursions and poacher activities in the starting 6 months of the current year.
