Pakistan- 97 factories sealed, 50,000kg polythene bags confiscated in KP


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in its crackdown against polythene bags has sealed 97 factories and shops of wholesale dealers and confiscated over 50,000 kilograms plastic bags during the last three months.

After announcement by KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to completely ban plastic bags, the commissioners and deputy commissioners of all the districts were directed to ensure implementation of the orders.


Sources said 1,039 complaints have been received from the citizens about the use of plastic bags on which the respective district administrations took prompt action.

According to a report of the Management and Reforms Unit, over 50,000kg plastic bags have been confiscated and disposed of. In June, 30,917kg plastic bags were confiscated, 12,552kg polythene bags were confiscated in July and 7,328kg bags were seized in August, 2019. The report said the largest quantity of plastic bags were confiscated in Mardan where 7,407kg bags were seized, 4,769kg bags were confiscated in Charsadda and 3,918kg bags were confiscated in Lower Dir. The sources said low quantity of plastic bags were seized and disposed of in August as use of plastic bags has reduced significantly after the ban imposed by the provincial government.


Alleged robbers arrested

Robbers who allegedly burgled a house in Lakki Marwat and then opened fire on the house members have been arrested after an encounter with police.

Police said thieves entered a house in Sarkori area of Serai Naurang on Friday night and stole valuables. The family members woke up and they started chasing the thieves. The thieves opened fire on the family members due to which Rizwanullah and his nephew Naeem Khan lost their lives.

Police with their timely action arrested the alleged thieves. District Police Officer (DPO) Qasim Ali Khan said while addressing a press conference at Naurang Police Station on Saturday that the accused were arrested in injured condition after an encounter with police. He said the stolen valuables and arms used in the robbery have also been recovered from the possession of the thieves.

The DPO said the alleged thieves have been identified as Muntazir and Bahadur who have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for treatment. Another alleged accomplice of the thieves has also been arrested.
