Numbers of deceased in Cambodia increased


(MENAFN) Keo Vy, a spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), said on Sunday that, Mekong River floods and flash floods in other places have caused up to now the death of 16 people and injury of five others in Cambodia, he also said that between the dead there were seven children.


Keo Vy said that, The floods have struck parts of eight regions out of the kingdom's 25 cities and provinces since early this month, adding that damaged provinces include Kratie, Stung Treng, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kandal and Preah Vihear.


He also said that, "About 89,722 families were affected, and 14,583 of them were evacuated to higher ground," adding that some 68,780 houses and 59,242 hectares of rice fields and other crops have also been flooded.


According to the NCDM, floods usually hit Cambodia between August and October and last year, Mekong River and flash floods caused the death of 63 people.
