The local Organising Committee (LOC) of the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 is confident of hosting the successful multi-sporting competition next month, vowing an experience to remember for the athletes and the fans.

Qatar will become the first country to host the ANOC World Beach Games that will see participation of over 1,200 athletes, representing around 90 countries from all over the globe. They will compete in 14 disciplines from October 12 to 16.

Assistant General Manager for Operations for the event, Khaleel Ibrahim Al Jabir in an interview with The Peninsula said the arrangements were in place and Qatar was looking towards hosting a memorable event.  'Beach sports are gaining a lot of popularity and we are very happy to host the first edition of World Beach Games, Al Jabir said.

'The Local Organising Committee is working hard to make it a successful event and we are confident of doing that. We will show people of the world our hospitality and the best facilities in Qatar, he added.

'As the participation will be huge, we will host the event at four venues Aspire, Ladtifia, Al Gharafa and Katara beaches. Most of the events will be conducted at Katara, said Al Jabir.

The World Beach Games will start within a week of the conclusion of the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, which will run from September 27 to October 6. Qatar will also host several other mega events including the Gulf Cup football tournament and the FIFA Club World Cup in November and December.

Al Jabir said all the relevant sports bodies are leaving no stone unturned to make these events highly successful.

'Qatar has become a centre of sports events and has been organising major competitions. All these events are prestigious and all the federations are working very hard. We are ready to host all these events, said Al Jabir, who is also the President of Qatar Swimming Association.  Meanwhile, Al Jabir said the LOC of the World Beach Games are expecting a good turnout during competitions of the five-day event.

'We are expecting a lot of spectators in all competitions. The doors are open for fans as there will be free entrance. Katara always draw a lot of people and we are confident that the turnout will be very high as top athletes will be participating in the World Beach Games, he said.

The qualification process for the ANOC World Beach Games began in June last year with each sport having a different qualification pathway but the majority of qualification places were drawn from world ranking places or the highest finishing places at World Championships or Continental Championships. The process was designed to ensure that the best athletes would be competing at the Games.

The featuring sports include aquathlon, 3X3 basketball, climbing bouldering, beach handball, karate kata individual, kitefoil racing, skateboarding, beach soccer, open water 5km swimming, beach tennis, beach volleyball 4X4, waterski, wakeboard and beach wrestling.
