(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept 21 (Petra) –– The Labour Ministry will on Sunday start codifying regulations and rectifying the status of illegal foreign labourers after the permit fees system for non-Jordanian workers was published in the official gazette, according to Labour Minister Nidal Batayneh.
He said in a press statement Saturday that expatriate workers will not be issued work permits in the closed professions that are only specified for Jordanians, and that all other economic sectors will adhere to ratios allocated for foreign labour.
The Minister stressed that there will be no rectification in the coming years of the status of illegal foreign workers who are in violation of the law, and that they should seize the grace period for codification and rectification, which runs until Oct. 21. He warned that the government will take "stringent, decisive and intensive" measures in a joint effort by the Labour and Interior Ministries and concerned security bodies after the expiry of the deadline.
Batayneh added that expatriate workers who do not wish to correct their status during the set period can easily leave the country without having to pay any fees or fines.
