Abdul Hamid Bador, Inspector General of Police, said that 12 tons of cocaine with a value of USD570 million were apprehended in Malaysia.
He said that the shipment arrived in Malaysia in August, the police performed the operation on the 10th of September, raiding multiple areas of Penang state.
The drug syndicate discovered a new way to hide the drugs, mixing the cocaine with charcoal, which makes the detection difficult.
He was quoted saying that "Normal drug detecting technology would not be able detect it, but our chemistry department has advanced technology that was able to detect the cocaine among the charcoal".
