Arrest of drug traffickers at New Delhi airport


(MENAFN) An official statement said on Friday that, 5 Afghans, who had ingested capsules containing a narcotic substance worth USD 2.12 million, were detained at New Delhi airport on their arrival to the country.The passengers arrived at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi from Kandahar via a Kabul flight on Sept. 14.On the basis of particular intelligence, they were seized in a joint process by officers of the Air Intelligence Unit and Preventive Branch, IGIA Customs and Special Cell, Delhi Police.Within Sept. 14-18, 370 capsules were ejected by the five passengers and had a white powdery substance, Preliminary testing of narcotics substances has said that the white powder was heroin of high purity, as said in the statement.The capsules were seized and all the five people were detained in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, more investigations are ongoing.
