Pakistan- 134 more dengue cases emerge in KP, number exceeds 2,000


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Dengue virus is continuously spreading in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with 134 new cases has been reported on Friday raising the total number of victims to 2073.

The provincial health department issued an order for emergency treatment of dengue victims in hospitals across the province. According to data released by the KP Health Department, the number of dengue victims has reached 2073 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where a total of 64 new cases were reported in Peshawar, 13 in Abbottabad, 12 in Haripur, 8 in Lower Dir, 9 in Mardan, 9 in Buner, 17 cases were registered in Mansehra while two cases were registered in Dera Ismail Khan.


According to officials, the number of dengue victims in Peshawar has increased to 1300 with new cases. On the other hand, the health department issued special instructions to all the district health officers and ordered spray and other arrangements for dengue patients in all hospitals of the province.

It may be noted that over 8,933 dengue cases have been reported so far this year across the country, out of which 16 have lost their lives, mostly in Punjab province.

Yesterday, a two-judge bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on directed the government to set up special dengue wards in all hospitals in Peshawar. The court also summoned Director General Health and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar to appear before the court in two weeks and explain what efforts are being made to counter the spread of dengue virus the province.

However, the DG claimed that no casualty had been reported due to dengue fever in the province due to the timely measures of the KP government. The court-appointed the additional deputy commissioner as focal person for dengue cases in Peshawar. He was directed to submit a detailed report about the dengue cases and government measurements for the patients and eradication of the virus in KP.
