Tropical storm reaches Texas

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Imelda the tropical storm has arrived in Texas in the United States.

Imelda made landfall close to the Freeport, around 100 km to the south of Houston, no reports of damage or causalities have been made so far.

The storm started around midday, around 24 km to the south of Freeport in the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is predicted to bring extremely strong rains, according to the special advisory issued by NHC and it and "is likely to produce life-threatening flash flooding along portions of the Upper Texas Coast, including the Houston and Galveston areas".
