(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED) on Tuesday cancelled the written tests for vacancies of teachers in the province over increasing complaints of irregularities and mismanagement.
Islamabad-based Fair Testing Service (FTS), a private testing agency, was given the contract of holding tests for appointment of about 4,500 teachers in some districts of KP, while the contract of appointment of teachers in other districts was given to National Testing Service (NTS) which is also under severe criticism over alleged mismanagement from the candidates.
The ESED issued a notification on Tuesday cancelling all the tests conducted by the FTS so far and ordered the testing agency to re-conduct the tests within 15 days.
About 300,000 applicants attended the tests in 13 districts of KP under the FTS. The FTS has so far conducted the tests of Physical Education Teacher (PET), Senior Subject Teacher (SST), Theology Teacher (TT), Drawing Master (DM) and Arabic Teacher (TT) for which answer keys have also been uploaded on its website. However, countless complaints were pouring in from the candidates about the results with many complaining that the answer keys were wrong and they felt cheated.
'I had a wonderful test of PET and I was sure that I would definitely get over 80 marks in the exam, but the answer keys showed that I got only 61 marks, which left me extremely perturbed,' said a female candidate while talking to TNN.
She said the SST-General paper pattern showed combined 20 marks for Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies, but not even a single question was given from Islamic studies in the question paper.
Another candidate shared the same story and said the paper pattern for PET showed 20 marks for Pak-Studies, but no question from the subject was given in the exam paper.
Other candidates also shared a plethora of complaints on the mainstream and social media and the provincial government had no other option but to take notice.
'Contrary to the established transparent process of recruitment, certain irregularities were reported during the conduct of screening tests of teachers by FTS in several district of the province,' said the ESED notification.
It said ESED after the verification of the reports of alleged irregularities and supervision of several examination halls established by the FTS had come to the conclusion that the FTS had failed to fulfil its contractual obligations of maintaining transparency and fair play.
'Now, on the basis of reports received from the department and independent sources, and subsequent verbal approval of the chief minister, the competent authority has been pleased to order the cancellation of all tests conducted by the FTS across the province,' said the notification.
It said the FTS has been asked to hold fresh tests within 15 days in accordance with the terms and conditions laid down in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed for the purpose.
