Tropical storm Imelda reaches Texas


(MENAFN) The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that, on Tuesday afternoon, Tropical storm Imelda made landfall along southeastern coastal Texas, the United States.


The storm made landfall by Freeport, about 100 km south of downtown Houston and there are no reports of harm or losses, the storm happened at about midday, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Freeport in the Gulf of Mexico.


The major threat from the storm will be very heavy rain, and "is likely to produce life-threatening flash flooding along portions of the Upper Texas Coast, including the Houston and Galveston areas." As said by the special advisory issued by NHC.


On Wednesday, the system is forecast to turn north-northwestward and that general motion is forecast to carry on until dissipation happens.
