India- IIT Delhi announces JEE Advanced 2020 date: Check it here


(MENAFN- NewsBytes) The examination date for JEE Advanced 2020 is finally out and this time,IIT Delhihas been given the responsibility of the test.

The entrance examination, for admission in 23 prestigious IITs, will be held on May 17, 2020.

Further, this is the first time that an examination center would be set up in theUnited States .

AnIITJoint Admission Board (JAB) meeting, held on September 15, decided that an examination center will be set up in the San Francisco area.

Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said this move will encourage cultural diversity on campuses. Rao added that the USA has a large number of IIT alumni too.

In 2019, the exam was conducted in five other countries.

India is not the only nation where exam was held

In 2019, JEE (Advanced) centers were set up in Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka). However, this time the board has decided to not conduct the exam in Ethiopia and Sri Lanka.

Candidates
More students will be eligible for the examination this time

Another major change which JAB brought is that it increased the number of candidates eligible for JEE Advanced.

Earlier, only the top 240,000 candidates were eligible for the JEE Advanced exams.

Now, 250,000 students will be shortlisted in the Mains exam to appear for the JEE Advanced exams.

In 2019, there were more than 13,000 seats up for grabs across IITs.


Timings
Here's when the exam will begin

The first paper will begin at 9:00 am and end at 12 noon (IST). The second paper will start from 2:30 pm and will go on till 5:30 pm (IST).

Professor Siddharth Pandey, Organizing Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2020, said this was done to allow students, especially those with a disability, to have more time between the papers, and conduct biometric verification seamlessly.

How many students made the cut in 2019?

In 2019,IIT Roorkeeorganized the exam in which 161,319 candidates appeared for both papers 1 and 2. Of them, 38,705 candidates qualified successfully, of which 5,356 were female candidates.
