Sri Lanka- FR filed in Supreme Court against Elpitiya PS elections

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition was filed in the Supreme Court today against holding the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections.

The petition was filed by three residents in Elpitiya.

They sought the intervention of the court to prevent the elections from taking place until a new nominations list is prepared.

An Extraordinary Gazette notification was issued this month to hold the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections on October 11, 2019.

The Supreme Court had last month ordered the Elections Commission to hold the elections of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha after accepting nominations by the Democratic United National Front (DUNF) which had earlier been rejected.
